JAKARTA – The Department of English Education, Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), officially welcomed international student teachers from the Philippines as part of the SEA Teacher (Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia) Batch 11 Programme for 2026. The reception, focused on academic collaboration and cross-cultural teaching practicum, was held at the English Education Department office and led by the Head of the English Education Department, Dr Nina Wanda Cassandra, along with several key lecturers.

This programme directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals on Quality Education and Partnerships for the Goals by enhancing the competencies of future educators through international exposure and by fostering a sustainable network of collaboration between universities in Southeast Asia.

A total of four student teachers from partner universities in the Philippines have been placed under the mentorship of the English Education Department. The delegates include Prince Ryan A. Rabo and Athria Vidiot (West Visayas State University), Katrina E. Daba (Xavier University), and Skyla Mae A. Ornopia (Dr Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology).

The official reception was personally led by Dr Nina Wanda Cassandra, Head of the English Education Department, who was joined by several distinguished lecturers from the department. In her welcoming address, Dr Nina emphasised the department’s commitment to providing a high impact teaching practicum that aligns with global standards.

The student teachers will engage in classroom observations, team teaching, and cultural exchange activities at UNJ's Lab School and within the department, gaining hands-on experience in UNJ’s diverse academic environment. The attending lecturers affirmed that the programme serves as a strategic step to internationalise the department's curriculum and prepare Indonesian and Philippine future English teachers for the challenges of the 21st century.

The event concluded with a warm discussion session and a group photo, symbolising a strong start to a mutually beneficial academic and cultural partnership. The Department of English Education looks forward to hosting more international delegates under the SEA Teacher framework, solidifying its role as a hub for global collaboration in quality teacher education.
